Popcorn For Pops

The popcorn will be popping for all pops this Sunday, June 21, in celebration of Father's Day. Enjoy a bag of popcorn in honor of all dads.

There's a bit of nostalgia connected to popcorn for our St. Matthew's congregation. A few of our members remember—and they have some great stories to tell—about the earliest days of our parish when they met each Sunday in the old “Popcorn Palace” (otherwise known as the Wells Theater). They'll tell of how, as the service would come to an end and the worshipers were singing the final hymn, they'd start to hear the sound and smell the aroma of the popcorn popping in preparation for the Sunday matinee.

So, after this Sunday's service, be sure to enjoy a free bag of popcorn in honor of pops. And remember with thanksgiving our congregation's founders--the dear sainted moms and pops who used to worship in the Popcorn Palace.
